Original linocut, ‘Flapper girl n2’, limited edition of 10. Part of the ‘Roaring 20s’ series.
7-colour reduction cut plus 1 stamp for silver bracelet (in traditional oil-based silver ink).
The reduction technique is a way of making a multi-layered linocut from a single block. The block is carved and then printed in the first (the lightest) colour, it is then cleaned, carved again and printed in the second colour and so on. At each stage of the process the size of the printing area is reduced, hence the name. With this cutting method, the block of Lino is destroyed in the process so the edition can never be reprinted. ‘Flapper girl N2’ print is made up of 7 layers.
Caligo oil-based ink on Canfield off-white acid-free paper. Image size 9x9 cm, paper size appr. 19x25 cm.
