On the telephone II

Reduction linocut print ‘On the telephone II’ from my ‘Midcentury’ series in which I try to recreate the ‘feel’ of the 50s-70s of the last century as well as the aesthetics of the retro fashion magazines.
Each print in the limited edition run of just 10 is numbered, titled, dated and signed in pencil by me.

The reduction technique is a way of making a multi-layered linocut from a single block. The block is carved and then printed in the first (the lightest) colour, it is then cleaned, carved again and printed in the second colour and so on. At each stage of the process the size of the printing area is reduced, hence the name. With this cutting method, the block of Lino is destroyed in the process so the edition can never be reprinted. ‘On the telephone II’ print is made up of 8 layers.

Printed in 8 hand-mixed shades of Caligo oil based ink on beautiful Zerkall 145 gsm printmaking acid-free paper that is resistant to ageing.
