Original linocut "Auld Reekie" - a love letter to the city of Edinburgh, where I've lived for the past 20 years. Some time in the 18th century the city was affectionately nicknamed Auld Reekie (Scots for "Old Smoky"), for the views from the country of the smoke-covered Old Town.
Carved on linoleum and handprinted with oil-based ink in rich black on beautiful heavyweight printmaking paper Somerset.
Limited edition of 100.
This is my most ambitious and labour-intensive linocut, which has taken over 140 hours to design and carve. I studied the magical art of Celtic knotwork and tried to create my own version of Celtic-inspired design for the border.
