This listing is for a monochrome state proof of a wood engraving "May" - this proof is taken from one of the 4 blocks of the finished wood engraving. 
 
Wood engraving is a form of relief printmaking. The image is engraved with very sharp finely-pointed tools into a mirror- smooth surface of an endgrain block. The surface is then inked up and the image is printed onto paper. I print my wood engravings on an antique cast iron hand press made in 1868. 
 
Handprinted in highly-pigmented oil-based ink in greyish green colour.
