An original handprinted mezzotint of a little snail amongst the wild garlic.

Mezzotint is a printmaking technique invented in the 17th century. It involves indenting a surface of a copper plate by rocking it with a special toothed tool which creates lots and lots of tiny burrs that can hold a lot of ink. Then a tonal image is created by scraping off and burnishing the rough surface of a plate to various degrees of smoothness - the smoother the area the less ink it hold - the lighter it prints.

Printed on heavyweight paper Somerset Satin with oil-based ink using an etching press.

Image size 10x10cm. Paper size is appr 23x23 cm.

Titled, numbered and signed in pencil.

A small limited edition of 30 prints.

Because the image is inked and printed by hand, there may be slight variations in tone.

Will be shipped flat, carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue, sandwitched between 2 sturdy boards and packaged in a protective envelop to ensure safe delivery. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
