An original multiple-block linocut, featuring Hawthorn (also known as May Tree) that has been common in Britain for millennia, and out of all native trees, is perhaps the most present in myths and legends - from Celtic ceremony, to Arthurian myth and Christian legends. The pagan symbol of fertility and love, this tree is the ancestor of the Maypole and the source of May Day garlands. The flowers make up the crown of the fairy queen and the wreath of the Green Man.
 
Carved on 3 blocks of linoleum, individually inked with highly-pigmented oil-based ink in 16 colours and handprinted on premium heavyweight paper.
 
A small limited edition.  Paper size appr 55x38 cm, image size 40x30 cm.
Hand-finished edges so can be framed without a mount, with exposed edges.
Numbered and signed in pencil.
Because the image is inked and printed by hand, there may be slight variations in tone and colour. Sold unframed. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
